Glenn Gould Autograph Letter Signed
Glenn Gould Autograph Letter Signed "Glenn". 4 pages, with 2 pages ( 7.25" x 10") on pianist Gould's personal letterhead and 2 pages (8.5" x 11") on The Fort Garry (a Winnipeg hotel) letterhead, no date. This letter was written to Gould's friend, journalist Gladys Shenner and reads in part: "It was awfully good to know that you arrived home unchanged from the Riviera and its social climate...My season begins next week and so I'm getting depressed as usual. My piano I fear is languishing at the docks in New York. It arrived this week a couple of days before a longshoreman's strike began. This could ruin it and I'm rather helpless to do anything about it. Please do keep me informed about your plans. I'm sure you would like Israel if you get there. I was there in December of last year and the weather was still marvelous...My roles as actor-commentator become more interesting. I am gone to do a close-up for C.B.C. with the texas troubadour - Van - probably filmed in December. I may soon retire into my new role of the musicians' Ed Murrow...". Light aging with small splits along the edge of one sheet's folds. Overall very good condition. Gould signatures are rare and valuable. A Wall Street Journal article published August 29, 2006 stated that "Gouldiana has become more expensive than memorabilia of any other 20th-century pianist, dealers say. A signed Gould photo in good condition can fetch up to $5,000, compared with about $700 for one featuring the pianist Arthur Rubinstein."
