Very rare $1000 bond of The Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, issued April 3, 1880, 13.75 x 17.5, with 17 coupons intact below. Carrying a rate of 6%, the bond features an attractive vignette of the Seal of Pennsylvania, and is signed in ink by the president and secretary. Attractively double-matted and framed to an overall size of 20.5 x 25. In fine condition. The community of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, takes its name from two mills built there in the 1830s and 40s, which from 1864 to 1878 supplied the United States government with a special, patented paper for the printing of government bonds and notes.
