<td width="100%">
Glass and enamel cordial decanter. The horizontal band design of a light blue, gold and rows of white and orange enamel flowers had a practical as well as a decorative purpose--they were meant to check the amount of liqueur consumed! Enamel on glass decoration was a complex technique since it required placing the glass piece in an oven at high temperatures as many times as colors used. Each color required a different temperature and work could be easily ruined if timing or temperature was not right. For this reason most enamel work on glass was limited to simple designs along the borders. Number 56 is written on the underside in white.
