Ornately-penned AMQS, in Italian, on an off-white 7.5 x 4.5 sheet. Verdi pens three bars of music and lyrics from Otello, “ora e per sempre addio sante memorie,” which translates into, “now and for ever—addio holy memories,” adding a sentiment and signed below, “G. Verdi, Rome, 18 April 1893.” In very good condition, with uniform toning, heavier along the right edge, and scattered areas of spotting and soiling. Amongst all of Verdi’s musical quotes, material from this particular composition has proven the most elusive and rarely seen.
