The lithograph in colors was created as the eighth plate for the portfolio ‘Vento dell'Est’. The portfolio comprises a total of ten lithographs by the artist and was issued in 1979 in an edition of 100 copies by the publishing house of Erker-Presse in St. Gallen. The present sheet is an artist's proof aside from this portfolio edition.

The lithograph in colors is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Santomaso '74’, inscribed lower center in pencil ‘8’ and inscribed lower left in pencil ‘p.a.’. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 40 x 27.2 cm, the sheet 63 x 50 cm.

Giuseppe Santomaso (1907-1990)

Giuseppe Santomaso was born in 1907 as the son of a goldsmith in Venice. From 1932 to 1934 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and already participated at the local Biennale in his senior year. Santomaso was one of the co-founders of the progressive Italian artist group “Nouva Secessione artistica italiana”. When travelling to Paris he took an interest in the French Avant-garde artists and became a representative and supporter of abstract art. He dealt with informal art and graphics in his later works. Giuseppe Santomaso presented his works of art at national and international exhibitions until the end of his life. (fea)
