During the 1960s the artist began to refer in his abstract works on architectural elements of Venetian palazzi. In this lithograph in colors from 1982 the title as well as the picture elements allude to the architectural form of an arcade, too.

The lithograph in colors is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Santomaso '82’ inscribed lower left in pencil ‘H.C.’. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 50 x 40 cm, the sheet 73.3 x 53 cm.

Giuseppe Santomaso (1907-1990)

Giuseppe Santomaso was born in 1907 as the son of a goldsmith in Venice. From 1932 to 1934 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and already participated at the local Biennale in his senior year. Santomaso was one of the co-founders of the progressive Italian artist group “Nouva Secessione artistica italiana”. When travelling to Paris he took an interest in the French Avant-garde artists and became a representative and supporter of abstract art. He dealt with informal art and graphics in his later works. Giuseppe Santomaso presented his works of art at national and international exhibitions until the end of his life. (fea)
