Important Italian composer, conductor, and pianist (1858–1909) who helped introduce the works of Richard Wagner to Italy. ALS in Italian, signed “G. Martucci,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, Naples, February 6, 1886. Letter to a gentleman, possibly a patron. In part (translated): “I am so anxious to have you hear my concerto that I would very gladly come to Milan to play it, even though it would mean neglecting important matters here. What can I say? It seems impossible that you have not heard this work of mine which belongs to you doubly; first, because you inspired me, and second, because it is named after you…In fact, my dear friend, I want to point out that it is your praise that has always inspired me to work harder and to try to improve.” Some scattered foxing, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a full translation. The piece he refers to is his Concerto in B-Flat Minor for Piano and Orchestra. Uncommon in any format, this is the first Martucci we have offered.
