Gill Fox - Blood and Fire V2#1 Newspaper Illustra
Gill Fox - Blood and Fire V2#1 Newspaper Illustration Original Art (Blood and Fire, 1943). As a staff cartoonist for the official newspaper of the Blood and Fire (63rd) Infantry Division, in Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi, Corporal Gill Fox's duties included creating comic strips, and spot illustrations. This drawing appeared on the front page of the newspaper's one-year anniversary issue on June 15, 1944. Drawn in pen and ink, and grease pencil on coquille board, Fox created a memorable image for this special issue. The image area of the art measures 10" x 13", and, although the area around the ink work has yellowed with age (old glue and old newspaper), the illustration itself is clean and bright, and in overall Good condition. The lot includes a copy of Blood and Fire V2#1. The newspaper also prints commemorative military cartoons to the 63rd Infantry Division done by Milton Caniff, Jerry Siege, and Joe Shuster. From the collection of Gill Fox.
