Thailand, 17th century
With pointed ketumala
In half-lotus position on a pedestal
Dimensions: 12.5 x 6.5 x 3cm (height x width x depth)

This gilded bronze Buddha figure was crafted in Thailand the 17th century. Buddha sits on a high plain pedestal in the half lotus seat virasana. In this position his left leg is placed on the right calf and the foot with the open palm is facing upwards. His hands represent, with upward open palm, the dhyâna mudra, the gesture of meditation. They are folded and laid down in his lap.

The face of the enlightened illustrates the characteristic facial features of his grandeur with a smile and half-closed eyes. Buddha has long earlobes and his head is crowned by a pointed Ketumala.

The figure is in good, age-related condition with signs of wear. A breaking point at the neck and gold wear are visible. The height measures 12.5 cm, the width 6.5 cm and the depth 3 cm. (lvp)
