Gilbert,NV - Esmeralda County - c1930 - Street Scene and The Gilbert Club Photograph :
Lot of 2. People and autos mill about on the streets of Gilbert. Photograph one measures 9 1/2"x4", mounted on black construction paper, medium contrast, and focus is sharp. The Gilbert Club and Homestake Café read clearly. Photograph two measures 9”x3 3/4”, mounted to a photo album book cover, low contrast and focus is fair to good. One can clearly read The Gilbert Club and Mammoth Café. The glue used to attach the photo has stained the image. The right side of the photo has been trimmed, which cut out the date. One is able to read 4/20/19.. . Photographer identified in photo one as J.W. Walker from Ely, Nevada. In both photos, people and early autos are strewn about the street in front of Gilbert businesses. Located on the north side of the Monte Cristo Range, Gilbert boomed between 1924 and 1929. On their last attempt at prospecting, the Gilbert brothers struck a high grade gold ore. They named their stake "Last Hope". The town slowly diminished in the early thirties.
