<B>Gideon Welles Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> “<I>G Welles</B></I>”. One page, 6.5” x 5.5”, Hartford, April 7, 1831, in ink. The letter reads: “<I>The returns confirm all that I said to you yesterday. Still there is a prospect that Martin may be disappointed. I hope you will be here soon - in the meantime let us cast about.</B></I>” This letter was written during the time Welles served in the Connecticut state legislature. He gained greater fame for his service during the Civil War as Secretary of the Navy. The letter exhibits even toning with a few stray ink stains, else very good condition. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
