This Gibson and Sons English copper lustreware blue banded pitcher is eyecatching! It has a deep periwinkle blue band around the neck of the pitcher over the copper lustreware.

It is made by Gibson and Sons of Staffordshire, England, one of the best-known English copper lustreware producers since the 19th century. It measures 3 1/2 inches tall, 1 1/2 inches across the top, and has a 1 3/4-inch base. It is in excellent condition.

Lustreware in general is iridescent and shiny, which is achieved by painting the glazed pottery with a mixture containing a precious metal dissolved in acid. A yellow surface indicates the presence of silver; ruby, gold: silver, platinum, and red or pinkish is the copper. Copper lustreware was the most common in the 19th century, of which this is a wonderful example!
