In part: “I’ve gone over the screen treatment of ‘The Saint’ very carefully, and I’m afraid that I can’t give it my approval yet. Although I find the sequence of scenes and the camera-angle plotting quite ingenious and full of exciting possibilities, I was sadly disappointed at the flatness of the dialogue: it seems to have lost its poetry without acquiring any compensatory realistic vitality. None of the characters really come alive for me—not because they have strayed too far from the original libretto, but rather, perhaps, for quite the opposite reason. The script writer appears to have been far too conscious of the original text when, after all, it was never meant to be spoken.” In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
