Italian composer (1858–1924) who earned a central place in the operatic pantheon with such repertoire staples as ‘La Boheme,’ ‘Madama Butterfly,’ and ‘Tosca.’ AMQS on an off-white 4 x 5.5 album page. Puccini pens two bars from ‘La fanciulla del West,’ signing underneath, “Giacomo Pucinni, Berlin, 1913.” In fine, clean condition, with trivial paper remnant under Pucinni’s paraph and trivial bleeding to the musical notes. ‘La fanciulla del West’ (The Girl of the Golden West) was first performed on December 10, 1910, at the Metropolitan Opera House. Emmy Destinn and the legendary Enrico Caruso sang the leads, and another legend, Arturo Toscanini, conducted. It’s significant that the piece was signed in Berlin as Germany was the only European country in which the work was popular. A well-preserved token of the master’s nod to his New World fans.
