Italian composer (1858–1924) who earned a central place in the operatic pantheon with such repertoire staples as ‘La Boheme,’ ‘Madama Butterfly,’ and ‘Tosca.’ ALS in Italian, signed “G. Puccini,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.5 x 9, Milan, Grand Hotel & De Milan letterhead, September 17, 1912. Letter to one of the brothers Alberto and Vittore Grubicy, the owners of an art gallery in Milan who promoted young artists. In full (translated): “I am extremely sorry, but I have to leave tomorrow morning. Today I wanted to come to Previati’s studio [Gaetano Previati, 1852-1920, painter and sculptor], but I have been so busy that I simply have not been able to find the time. My best wishes to our great artist.” In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, mild toning, heavier to edges, and several tears to bottom edge.
