ALS in French, signed “Meyerbeer,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, January 5, 1861. Written from Berlin, a letter to prolific French librettist Michel Carré, affirming that he not yet received the manuscript from [Jules] Barbier, and that he wishes to wait upon its arrival before sending a response, despite a Mr. Brandi saying that he would receive a poem from Carre. Without the manuscript, Meyerbeer explains that he cannot divulge whether he likes the work or not, but as soon as he receives it, he will immediately give his opinion. Mounted to a larger sheet and framed to an overall size of 9 x 12.5 In fine condition, with light overall wrinkling (likely from being mounted to its backing). Carre, along with Barbier, wrote the libretto for Meyerbeer's 1859 opera comique, Dinorah.
