Ghriskey, Philadelphia-marked Indian trade type rifle. Converted from flintlock to percussion, barrel approx. 30-1/4”, 45-3/4” overall. Stock shortened to half length with high quality early patchbox, checkered wrist and interesting silver mounts. The wrist is mounted with an early clasp from what was probably a bible and there are two other thin silver inlays, one just behind the tang and one at the cheek piece. A crude iron swivel has been added to the forend. The stock shows great weathering and old repairs and the rifle has seen great use on the early frontier. There is some weathering and opening to the grain, the metal surfaces show a medium to dark patina with light to slightly heavy varying pitting and erosion and no cleaning. Refer: James Gordon Book. Est: $4,000 - $6,000
