Ghandhi, Mohandas K. "Mahatma" (1869-1948) Indian spiritual and political leader who used nonviolent resistance to obtain reforms. He successfully led India's struggle for independence from British rule (1947). Gandhi's nickname, "Mahatma" means "Great Soul." His method of nonviolent resistance was used in the American Civil Rights movement Card Signed "M K Gandhi" in black ink above his engraved full name. Written in another hand on the verso is London, Oct. 1, 1931. The card is composed of two pieces of glossy paper, which is partially separated, not affecting the front of the card and the nice bold signature.
