(Gettysburg) Signed CDV photograph of Lt John M Rhoads, 5th Penn Reserves, portrait in uniform, R.W. Addis backstamp, Washington, DC. The 5th Penn Reserves (also known as the 34th Penn Vols) arrived on the field at Gettysburg, and were for a time held in reserve in the vicinity of Little Round Top. When this coveted position was attacked by Confederate General John Bell Hood's Division, southern soldiers poured through the little valley between Round Top and Little Round Top, threatening the rear of Joshua Chamberlain's 20th Maine. Colonel Joseph Fisher of the 5th Penn was ordered to advance, gaining the summit of Round Top in time to share in the victory. VG. $200-300
