(Winsor McCay, 1914) Original production drawing featuring Gertie from Gertie the Dinosaur, showing the dinosaur as she is about to drink from the lake. Accomplished in ink on 8.75 x 6.75 rice paper and affixed to a slightly larger mount. In fine condition, with show-through from adhesive at edges. Gertie the Dinosaur was Winsor McCay's first piece of animation with detailed backgrounds, and this scene shows Gertie drinking from a lake after growing tired from all of her activities—she ends up drinking it dry. Gertie is considered McCay’s masterpiece, and this very rare production drawing features a large and exceptional full-length depiction of the dinosaur in her habitat.
