For your bidding pleasure is this "Geronimo" Chilmark Sculpture S. Lockbower. Geronimo means "the one who yawns," he lived from June 1829- February 1909 and was a prominent leader and medicine man apart of the Bedonkohe band of the Apache tribe. While well known, Geronimo was not a chief among the Chiricahua or the Bedonkohe band. However, since he was a superb leader in raiding and warfare he frequently led large numbers of men and women beyond his own following. During Geronimo's final period of conflict from 1876 to 1886 he "surrendered" three times and accepted life on the Apache reservations in Arizona. This bust is in good display condition; and is made from fine pewter as stamped on the lower back of the bust. Also stamped is "Chilmark" and its hallmark symbol along with the artists name and date, SLockbower and 1992. This bust is numbered 381/750. Showing exquisite detail to the face of Geronimo, along with lovely texture and coloring to the vest and adornment around the neck of the Native American Leader set atop of a black and shadowed marble base. There is a quote from Geronimo inscribed to the face of the base, " I give myself up to you... Once I, moved about like the wind. Now I surrender to you and that is all." The measurements of the statue are 12 1/2" x 6" x 4 1/8".
