Germany, bronze medal for the sinking of the Lusitania (1915), with designer's name K. GOETZ on edge. 69.18 grams; 55mm. Rare, Goetz-signed corrected-date issue of this famous medal whose earlier erroneously dated propaganda-laden release resulted in many different copies from the British and others to show how cruel the Germans were about the incident, the overall design being a depiction of the ship sinking on one side under a legend that translates as "No Contraband Goods!" and proper date 7 MAI 1915 below, whereas the other side shows Death (a skeleton) selling tickets to passengers at the Cunard box office with "Business Above All" (translated) at top. Choice AU with light cabinet rub on the high points, even dark brown surfaces, grainy texture as made.
