During World War I, the Iron Cross, Second Class was awarded for a single act of bravery in the face of an enemy during war time. The combat version has a black ribbon with two thin white bands, representing the colors of Prussia. While it is no longer used as an award, it has been adopted as the official symbol of the modern German army, leading to its use as a symbol on military vehicles to identify them as German. While the Iron Cross may be out of official use, it remains a significant symbol for Germany. Golden and violet patina. Pin holes and light handling wear of ribbon.
