Ornate in gilt decoration, this German porcelain hinged footstool-shaped jewelry box is elegant in high glazed cobalt blue. Painted using the Japonisme technique of heavy raised gold. It is crowned with an 18th Century polychrome Watteau or Boucher scene.

Figural 17th Century pastoral scene of two women conversing with an impish cherub eavesdropping close by is represented on box cover with colors still vivid. Antique gold embossed Florentine metal banding, hinge and front catch. Three elaborate feet are painted in brilliant burnished gold paint.

Condition is rated to be very good with a minor problem with the lid hinge. When raised to full height it has a tendency to drop on its own. Minor rub wear to unglazed bisque foot pads. The exterior color, gold, metal and pattern are all in very fine condition. Interior is also near perfect.

Measures approximately 3.75 inches tall by 4.75 with a 3.50 inch depth and is of a size large enough to hold many of your finest baubles.
