German-made pre-WWII sporter on 98 Mauser action, barrel marked “H. Sherping, Hanover”. Serial #1246 on bolt. 9mm bore, case length unknown. Shows high quality octagon to round barrel with hand-milled raised rib. Claw-mounts for scope. Folding leaf rear sight. Double-set triggers. Hinged release floorplate. Case hardened action and mounts. Blued barrel. The rifle shows 24” barrel, 43-3/4” overall. Medium weight. Barrel shows 80-90% original blue evenly toning. The action and triggerguard show 30-50% case hardening drifting to silver. The stocks are good to very good with some minor storage marks and scratches. Original hard-rubber butt nicely checkered pistol grip. Some minor age checks in small cracks. Generally very good overall with very good bore. A fine quality rifle that would date about 1920. Est: $ 750-$1,300.
