Original Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross Award Document presented to Oberleutnant Georg Hunger. This is the preliminary 'Vorlaufiges' testimonial of ownership for a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) It states "The Fuhrer awarded Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant) Georg Hunger, Fhr. I/Pz. Rgt. 26, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 6.10. 1944" (Oct. 6, 1944) It is dated 2. 11.1944 (Nov. 2, 1944) It measures approx. 6x9'. The 26th Panzer regiment was part of 26th Panzer Division which was sent to Italy in July, 1943 where it fought the Allied landing, including Anzio. It surrendered to the Allies in northern Italy at the end of the war. Oblt. Hunger was the C.O. of Company I, 26 Panzer Regt. He was killed in Action on 6 October, 1944 which resulted in his Knights Cross. He is listed in Wikipedia's Holders of the Knight's Cross (Hn-Hz). Only 15 Knight's Crosses were awarded in the 26th Division during the war. ( 2 unconfirmed). Document has been folded in half, and there is minor separation on the right side of the fold. Otherwise very good condition. Ink signed by a Generalleutnant, ink stamp is faint.
