Round Body Sidelock Hammer Drilling, by Andr. Aug. Ahl, of Bonn a/Rh. Germany, NVSN, 16x16 ga. 2-9/16'' x 8x72Rmm cal., 27-3/4'' blue finish barrels with automatic flip-up rear sight and blade front sight, 5/8'' matted rib with doll's head extension, Full and Mod. chokes, side-lever bolt release with extractor, double triggers with adjustable front trigger and horn triggerguard, sliding top-tang lever-activated rifle barrel with tang mounted peep sight, rebounding hammers, and blackpowder proofmarks. Case-colored frame is fully engraved with Germanic forest scenes, having two roe deer on the left side and two red deer on the right side, bordered by intertwining foliate scrolls which carry to the lockplates highlighting two engraved foxes on the left and a retriever on right. Round knob stock and lever-release forend are lightly figured walnut with flat diamond checkering and elongated cheekpiece; toe line has a trap to hold four cartridges with one chamber presently blocked by a wood plug. Hinged trap cover is fully scroll engraved; sling swivel loops are 7/8''. Length of pull is 13'' over 1/2'' black composition buttplate; weight is 6-3/4 lbs. Action has a tight lockup and bright bores with areas of erosion, barrel blue is developing a brown patina with light pitting, a few traces of case colors remain on frame, other metal surfaces have areas of grey-brown oxidation. Tang sight is slightly marred and lodged in place. Wood has scattered chipping and shrinkage around inletting with smoothed checkering. Horn triggerguard has edge chipping; revarnished stock has spots of white paint residue. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
