German Model 71 Bolt Action Military Rifle
This was the first German metallic cartridge rifle. The rear 2 3/4" of the barrel are octagon and the top flat is marked "crown / Amberg", the right flat is marked with five crown over Gothic letter proofs, the left flat is marked with the serial number and "11" at the breech. The octagon receiver is finished bright and the front of the left flat is marked with the matching serial number, three proofmarks on the right flat , "1877" twice on the right rear flat and "D. G. Mod 71" on the left rear. Blade front and adjustable rear sight with "11" and "12" graduation markings, brass trigger guard, iron cleaning rod and mounted with a full length straight grip stock with three barrel bands, two crown proofs on the right stock over "4" vertically and "40" horizontally with a flat steel buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 80% faded original blue finish. The barrel bands have a silver gray patina with some minor pitting. The trigger guard has an aged patina and the remaining parts remain bright with some discoloration. The stock is very good with scattered dents, dings and scratches associated with a gun of this age. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
