German Katzbalger Arming Sword
Produced in the 18th or 19th Century, the katzbalger sword was the chief sidearm of the German Landsknecht mercenary pikemen, emblematic to the point of often being used in art to differentiate them from the Swiss mercenaries of the same era. Blade is 25 1/2" long and 1 4/5" wide at the base, with a rounded tip and a crescent "man in the moon" stamp on one side near the guard. Fitted with the distinctive "figure 8" pattern guard, with a pair of ball tipped twisted iron quillions bent back on themselves to make a pair of side rings 5 3/4" long and 3 3/4 wide each. Leather wrapped grip, with a flared twisting pattern and an oval steel pommel cap.
