Vintage German Elisabeth Liegl Beer Stein with Nude Woman Lithopane, ca. 1949-1999, ''This white, conical, ornamental stein from Elisabeth Liegl features a green background with golden lions and the blue and white Bavarian coat of arms . Its pattern is inspired by the golden tapestries of the Bavarian royal castles . This Elisabeth Liegl work features a recessed bottom and two circling rope-like golden bands. On the stein's bottom is a cartouche with an inscription in German: ''Die Anregung zu diesem Dekor gaben Ornamente aus Goldstickereien in den Bayrischen K”nigschl”ssern''. In English it's: ''The inspiration for this d‚cor came from gold embroidery ornaments in the Bavarian royal castles''. The stein's distinctive hinged pewter lid is in the shape of a castle and its ornate handle is in the form a lion. The pattern features an armorial type lion, crest, swan and pennant against a red background. On the base is a nude female figure that can be seen when back lit. The technique is called lithopane or lithophane. Size: The stein is 9 1/4 inches tall at the top of the handle and 7 inches tall at the opening. It's 4 1/2 inches wide at the base.''
