This is a solid example of an early production German Military 1908 first Issue Contract Luger pistol that was made without the hold open device in the frame. The top of the barrel extension is marked "1910" (the first year that appears on the 1908 military model Lugers) for the year of manufacture and the right side has the correct Crown over script letter and Imperial eagle proofmarks. The top of the toggle is marked "DWM" for the Deutsche Waffen Und Munitions factory, and the safety and extractor are correctly marked "Gesichert" and "GELADEN", respectively, and the left side of the breechblock is marked with the Imperial eagle. The top of the barrel is correctly marked with the Imperial eagle (faint) and the bottom is marked with the serial number and "8.82" for the bore dimensions. The front strap is marked "B.R.M.G. 11.39". The matching serial number is marked on the front of the frame and bottom of the barrel with the partial number "03" marked on most small components. The replacement magazine is blue and unmarked with a black plastic base. Finished blue with straw colored small parts and fitted with checkered walnut grips.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 503c
Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains 90% original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, a small area of minor pitting on the left side of the frame, and some thinning and light spotting on the grip straps. 60% of the original straw color remains on the trigger, takedown lever, magazine release and ejector. The safety lever has a smooth mottled patina. The moderately worn grips are fine with the exception of a chip on the left panel above the magazine release and some moderate wear on the lower edges, a few minor bruises and overall crisp checkering. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
