TLS signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, December 11, 1978. Letter to Hall of Fame baseball player Harmon Killebrew, originating from the collection of Congressman Ralph Harding. Ford invites the slugger to participate in a celebrity pro-am golf tournament. In part: "I hope you'll be able to participate in the Third Annual Jerry Ford Invitational Gold Tournament in Vail, Colorado. The dates this year are July 8, 9, and 10…Monday night, Betty and I will be hosting a buffet dinner for everyone and Tuesday night there will be the dinner and show…The tournament committee in Vail will send you all the information you need." The entry fee area is stamped "Complimentary." In fine condition. Accompanied by two of Ford's stationery envelopes addressed to Killebrew, both bearing pre-printed free franks. Following Killebrew's career in baseball and Ralph Harding's career in the US Congress, the two teamed up to start an insurance firm. Together, they also founded the Danny Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit leukemia and cancer research, in memory of Killebrew's former teammate who passed away from leukemia at age 30.
