TLS as president signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, July 18, 1975. Letter to Fred Dixon, in full: "In addition to thanking you for your contribution to the new White House swimming pool I wish to add my extra thanks for your efforts in making the fund drive a success. Your dedication to the project has made the White House pool a reality sooner than would otherwise have been possible." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. The first White House swimming pool was installed indoors during FDR's presidency, to allow him therapeutic swimming exercises. Under President Nixon, the indoor pool was covered up by a newly built press briefing room to accommodate the growing demand for television news. Rather than evict the press corps, Nixon's predecessor, the avid swimmer Gerald Ford, built an outdoor pool and cabana on the White House grounds, which remain in use to this day.
