TLS signed “Jerry,” one page, 6.25 x 8.5, personal letterhead, November 29, 2000. Letter concerning the contested presidential election of 2000. In part: “Until the decision on the election is finalized, it is too early to contact President Bush or Governor George W. about a job in the new Administration. If and when George W. wins, I’ll do whatever I can.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, bearing a pre-printed free frank, as well as a GOP observer Miami-Dade badge. The election between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George W. Bush came down to the state of Florida, where Bush’s slim margin of victory triggered a recount. However, the Supreme Court brought the recount to a halt in the controversial Bush v. Gore decision and awarded the presidency to Bush. Shortly thereafter on January 30, 2001, former presidents Ford and Carter were named honorary co-chairmen of the National Commission on Federal Election Reform.
