ALS signed “Gerald R. Ford,” one page, 6.5 x 8.5, personal letterhead, October 21, 1983. Ford writes Bishop Earl Hunt. In full: “All of us in this great nation are fortunate that you and countless others are dedicated to the ministry. I congratulate you on your outstanding service as the United Methodist Bishop for Florida. It is always a great pleasure to visit Florida with its wonderful people and delightful weather. We almost settled there when we left the White House.” In fine condition. Hunt, the letter’s recipient, was a Methodist pastor, evangelist, theologian, author, and president of Emory and Henry College. He was elected as a bishop of the Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church in 1964. A gracious letter from a former head of state to a leader in the Methodist Church. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope addressed by Ford. An interesting ‘endorsement’ between church and state.
