Expertly hand-painted vice-presidential seal used on Vice President Ford’s podium prior to his becoming president after Nixon’s resignation in 1974. The seal measures 7.75? in diameter and features the traditional patriotic bald eagle in high relief, holding an olive branch and arrow in its talons, encircled by 13 raised blue stars. The rim is painted in gold and navy blue, with raised white lettering, “Vice President of the United States.” The seal has been archivally set into a soft cloth mat and framed with a nameplate to an overall size of 15 x 17. Includes a letter of provenance written by Raleigh DeGeer Amyx many years ago, in part: “This framed Vice Presidential Seal was used on the speakers podium of Vice President Gerald P. Ford prior to his becoming President in 1974. It was presented to a White House staff member, Richard E. King, shortly after Mr. Ford became President…The Vice Presidential Seal represents the original [vice presidential] design which was not used in following Administrations.” Condition is flawless.
