The Calendar here is of the use of St. Adrian, Abbey of Geraardsbergen (= Grammont), diocese of Cambrai, on the borders of Brabant and Hainault, founded in the mid-eighth c. and re-dedicated to St. Adrian when his relics were deposited there in 1110. The Calendar singles out in red the Elevation, Advent and Passion of St. Adrian (4 March, 27 May and 8 September respectively), all with 12 lections, and St. Adrians' wife Nathalia similarly honoured (1 December). The scriptorium at Geraardsbergen reached a highpoint of technical accomplishment in the mid fifteenth c. The abbey was suppressed in 1796 (cf. T. Delforge, "Le bréviaire de Saint-Adrien de Grammont", Scriptorium, XII, 1958, pp. 102-104 & L.M.J. Delaissé, "Les techniques du livre dans le bréviaire bénédictin de Grammont", ibid., pp. 104-7). The present manuscript is elegantly decorated with large initials on ff. 8 (Psalm 1), 21 (Psalm 20), 30v (Psalm 32), 43v (Psalm 45), 53 (Psalm 59), 65 (Psalm 73), 76v (Psalm 85), 87v (Psalm 101) and 98v (Psalm 109). *** Psalterium en kalender.
