The quintessential Mining, Geology and Metallurgy book, originally set down in Latin by Georgius Agricola in 1556. Agricola was a Renaissance German scholar, born March 24, 1495, and was considered the "Father of Mineralogy." This book was translated from that first edition by Herbert Clark Hoover (The US President) and Lou Henry Hoover (his wife). Published for the translators by "The Mining Magazine Salisbury House, London, E.C." This hard-bound book is large, with 640 heavy pages with untrimmed edges. The chapter headings have illuminated letters. Black-ink illustrations abound, with multiple diagrams and woodcut pictures of mining sites, mining operations, assay equipment and devices, bellows, water mills, forges, etc. The sheer depth and scope of this book's contents is difficult to describe. Excellent condition. Rare. - Ken & Rosemary Roberts Collection -59437
