Down, Georgina Moutray Kyle studied at Colarossi's in Paris during the 1880s, returning afterwards to Ireland with a distinctly modern palette and Post-Impressionist style. She became an active committee member of the Belfast Art Society (later called the Ulster Academy of Arts) and was a dominant persona in Belfast exhibitions in the 1920s and '30s (see Snoddy, page 328). At a retrospective organised last year by Queen's University, Belfast, four other examples of Kyle's Volendam landscapes were included, on loan from the Ulster Museum, the Armagh County Museum and private collections.<BR>
