What a rare etruscan and turquoise Tussie Mussie Brooch that would have held a flower on a lapel or dress. THis is pinchbeck ( an alloy of copper and zinc, discovered by Christopher Pinchbeck which resembles Rose Gold). It was popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century as a gold look-alike; ladies often had their favorite gold pieces reproduced in pinchbeck to take with them on their travels. Its popularity waned in the mid-1800sand 1900s with the legalization of 9K gold and the invention of the electrogilding process. Pinchbeck is rarely seen today and this piece is a fine one! The way the brooch arches, it would sit flat against the coat and the flower or flowers would fit nicely in the space. This measures 1 1/4" long and 1/2" wide. This is a great old piece that has claw bezel set persian turquoise stones. In great shape this is probably one of a kind too.
