Cameos such as this are highly prized and collectible worldwide. This fabulous, hand carved lava Cameo boasts a stunning bust of Renaissance poet Torquato tasso, (1544-95). He wrote beautiful lyric poems, the charming pastoral play Aminta (completed 1573), and the first version (completed 1575) of his masterpiece, Jerusalem Delivered. psychologically unstable, and following a fit of violence, Tasso was Reputedly insane and confined, first in a convent, then intermittently in a hospital. In his last years, he lived with the Gonzagas in Mantua and then wandered restlessly throughout Italy searching for ideal working conditions at other courts. He died at a monastery in Rome in 1595, just one day before he was to have been crowned poet laureate. Notice the detail all the way This pin is 3 ½" long and believed to be Georgian. I am not sure of the pin?s gold content. there is a repair on his neck. Sold as is.
