c1945 This 1.25" x 0.5" pendant features a high relief, oblique view of a Colorado Silver mine. The scene shows a steep-walled canyon typical of Clear Creek canyon outside Georgetown. The lower and left edges of the pendant are inscribed "30,000,000", for the silver production total [Ref: Vanderwilt, Mineral Resources of Colorado, 1947, p. 303] and "Colorado Silver". The reverse is plain. This ingot pendant is slabbed in a clearly labeled white plastic case with gold trim and lettering. Silver was discovered at Georgetown in the early 1860s. The mines and prospects were located high in the steep-walled Clear Creek canyon at an elevation approaching 10,000 feet. Severe winter conditions impeded mining efforts until 1869, when tram systems began to be developed for hauling ore to the mills on the canyon floor. Today, Georgetown is a wonderful Colorado Rockies Victorian village, allowing for year-round mining. - HKA#61609
