Belgian author (1903–1989) best known for his Inspector Maigret detective novels. Three one-page TLSs, 8.5 x 10.75, dating from 1968-69, all on his personal letterhead. All three are addressed to Robert Spencer, foreign language editor at Appleton Century Crofts. One letter, dated July 25, 1968 reads, in part: “Many thanks…for the good news about the successful career of ‘Trois Nouvelles de Georges Simenon (the presentation of which I particularly admire) and of ‘Tournants Dangereux.’ I hope you will find some suitable material in ‘La Rue aux Trois Boussins’ when you get it. It is, indeed, quite different for me to suggest any other ‘fresh material’ for the relatively small number of novels I have written ….” In fine condition, with small notations to tops of two letters, small edge tear and a spot of light toning to one letter.
