Georges Djo-Bourgeois, attribution floor lamp France, c. 1930 enameled metal, Massacar ebony, glass, brass 18"w x 15"d x 73"h Djo-Bourgeois was a member of La Societe des Artistes Decorateurs, at times collaborating with Charlotte Perriand and Rene Herbst. He was part of the first generation of French designers that moved away from the high art deco style, gravitating instead toward the distinctly modern characteristics of simplicity and rationalism. According to Brunhammer and Tise, the 1928 salon evidenced the Societe's first designs employing innovative materials and international style. The Djo-Bourgeois, Perriand, and Herbst collaboration of 1929 was praised for its mastery of the new, tubular steel material and aesthetic considerations. Djo-Bourgeois' own designs are notable for their creative combinations of materials. <BR>Literature: The Decorative Arts in France: La Societe des Artistes Decorateurs 1900-1942, Brunhammer and Tise, ppg. 146, 150-151
