Nice occupational image. Georges De Caluwe (c. 1889–1962) was a Belgian radio pioneer, broadcaster, and early "DJ"-type presenter, best known as the founder of Radio Antwerpen, one of the first independent radio stations in Belgium. He began broadcasting in 1922 from Antwerp famously transmitting from a church tower and offered a mix of music, news, and entertainment programming that attracted listeners across Europe. After repeated government restrictions and shutdowns, he continued to champion independent broadcasting, eventually launching a pirate radio station from a ship (the Uilenspiegel) in 1962. He died the same year, just days before the station’s dramatic end in a North Sea storm.
