Partly-printed DS, signed “Go: Washington,” one page both sides, 7.5 x 12, June 7, 1783. Discharge reads, in part: “By His Excellency George Washington, Esq General and Commander in Chief of the Forces of the United States of America. These are to certify that the bearer hereof Archibald Elliott Private in the 2nd New York Regiment having faithfully served the United States Six Years and four months and being inlisted [sic] for the War only, is hereby Discharged from the American Army.” Signed at the conclusion by Washington and countersigned by Jonathan Trumbull, Jr. Bottom of the document also notes that Elliott was presented the Badge of Merit for six years of faithful service. Nicely cloth-matted and framed (so part of the back side may be viewed) with a color portrait of Washington to an overall size of 21.75 x 20. Handwritten portion at top fairly light, but still legible, two small stains to upper left, and some scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. The 2nd New York would see action in the Invasion of Canada, Battle of Valcour Island, Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Monmouth, the Sullivan Expedition, and the Battle of Yorktown.
