(George Washington's Presidential Household) Manuscript Document Signed by Mary Wilson who signs with her mark, "x", one page, 7.5" x 3", no place given, April 7, 1791, a receipt from "...Mr. [Tobias] Lear the sum of twenty five dollars for five months wages as Housemaid in the family of the President of the United States" Little is known about Mary Wilson except that she worked as a washerwoman until March 1791 when she assumed the duties of housemaid. She married in the summer of 1792 and was listed as "Mary Loeffler" when she received her final wages on November 10, 1792. Tobias Lear (1762-1816) was Washington's personal secretary from 1791 to 1793. Chipped at bottom and right margins with loss of one word of text, slightly browned at edges, otherwise very good condition. A fun item with great association to our first president. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
