George Washington Signed 4th July Document!
"Beautiful and ornately vignetted Society of Cincinnati certificate, signed by Washington as the societyÆs President, and countersigned by Henry Know, who was the Commander of WashingtonÆs artillery at Bunker Hill. The document was signed by Washington at the conclusion of the tenth anniversary of American independence. The signature, as is typical with virtually all of these documents is light, but completely legible. The Society of Cincinnati was AmericaÆs first Military Order. Formed by officers of the Continental Army, headed by Know, in 1783 before the Treaty of Peace was signed and before the British had evacuated New York. Its purpose was, in addition to preserving the rights and liberties so dearly won by its founders, but also to promote national honor and dignity of the new nation and to preserve the ôcordial affectionö among its members by providing aid and assistance to them and their families when needful. Occasional wrinkling and light foxing, otherwise very good. Attractively matted in a simple frame. One of the most coveted forms of WashingtonÆs autograph because of its superb display qualities."
