English-born forger (1813-1876) who forged letters from luminaries like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Horatio Nelson. An original Robert Spring forgery of a George Washington DS, signed “G. Washington,” 6.5 x 3, ordering the cashier of the Office of Discount and Deposit in Baltimore to pay William Dirt $250. Two vertical folds, lightly trimmed edges, and some mild toning, otherwise fine condition.
