George Washington: Pair of Battersea Boxes with portraits of Washington on the enamel lids. This art was given the name Battersea as they were originally made at York House in Battersea England. The process was popular and continued Here we have an earlier 1840s-1850s example and an example possibly done around the Centennial. The hinges have broken loose on the dark blue based box, but the enameling, save for a small chip to the copper, is very good. The octagon shaped box appears to be a later version, perhaps from the Philadelphia Centennial. It is in excellent condition. Sizes: oval 2.25", octagon 1.5" x 2.25"

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
